# Change your Google account or move to Google Workspace

> Switch from a gmail to your school's Google email for logging in and for Google Calendar, without losing anything.

Your sessions, students and payments stay as they are: only how you log in changes. Follow the steps in this order so you never lose access.

## Before you start

* If you only log in with Google and have no password, create one first as a backup: [Change your name, email, language, time zone or password](/en/account/account-settings#create-a-password-if-you-log-in-with-google).
* Have the email of the new Google account at hand, for example `ana@tuescuela.com`.

## Change your SmartCookie email (optional)

You can keep your old email. If you prefer the new one:

1. Click your photo or initials, top right, and choose **Profile**.
2. Under **Your email**, type the new one in **Email**.
3. Click **Update**.
4. Open the email that arrives at your new address (in English) and click **Verify Email Address** within 1 hour. From then on you log in with the new email.

## If Google Calendar uses your old account, disconnect it first

In **Profile** > **Login methods**, the account Google Calendar uses shows "Used for Google Calendar". If it's the old one:

1. Go to **Integrations**.
2. On the Google Calendar card, click **Disconnect**. You'll see "Google Calendar disconnected".

## Change your Google account

1. In **Profile**, go to **Login methods**.
2. On your Google account's row, click **Change account**.
3. Pick the new Google account and allow access. You'll come back to **Profile** and see "Google account changed": the row shows the new email.

It doesn't need to have the same email as your SmartCookie account. Your name and photo don't change.

If you see "For your security, log out, log back in and try again.", the new account is already linked, but the old one is still there. Log out, log back in and click **Unlink** on the old email's row.

## Connect Google Calendar again

Do this step only if you disconnected Google Calendar.

1. Go to **Integrations**.
2. Click **Connect**.
3. In the dialog, click **Connect Google Calendar**.
4. Pick the new Google account. The card will show "Connected as" and its email.

What happens when you switch:

* SmartCookie creates a new calendar called "SmartCookie" in the new account.
* Your future sessions are copied there. Past ones aren't.
* The "SmartCookie" calendar in the old account stays as it was. Delete it yourself in Google Calendar if you don't want it.
* The Google Meet links of your sessions change: your students get the new invitation from Google.

## If Google says "Access blocked"

Some schools stop their accounts from using outside apps. Then Google shows "Access blocked" when you link or connect. Only the person who manages your school's Google Workspace can fix it. Send them [Connect Google Calendar](/en/integrations/google-calendar#if-google-says-access-blocked) and, once they've allowed it, try again.

## What you can't do

* You can't unlink the Google account that Google Calendar uses while it's connected. Disconnect Google Calendar in **Integrations** first.
* You can't change your email to one another SmartCookie account already uses: the confirmation email won't arrive.
* You can't link a Google account that already belongs to another SmartCookie account. You'll see "That Google account is already used by another SmartCookie account."
